Nov. guber poll: Keke, Okada riders endorse Obiano

The Association of Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria (MTUN) and Association of Tricycle Transport Union of Nigeria, Anambra State chapters have endorsed Governor Willie Obiano for a second tenure.

Both bodies in Awka held a rally to unanimously express their support to the present administration for involving them in decision-making.

The unions said the present government created enabling grounds for smooth transportation system, which had given them confidence to carry on their businesses.

The event, which took place at District Officers Field, Amawbia, attracted virtually all the Motorcycle and Tricycle operators known as `Okada and Keke NAPEP riders in Anambra State.

Commissioner for Rail, Road and Water Transportation, Mrs. Chinwe Nwaebili, said Governor Obiano mapped out several policies to improve transportation in the state and to give Okada and Keke riders a sense of belonging.

The member, Board of Trustees, Motorcycle and Tricycle association in Anambra State, Dr. Jimmy Okonkwo, said that the governor had instilled peace amongst them, saying the union had been engulfed in crisis in past years.

Chief Okonkwo described Obiano as a magnanimous man, who had given hope to the despondent in the state.

The National President, Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria (MTUN), Mr. Okongwu Charles, said the endorsement was a unanimous decision of the both unions, as previous administrations in the state had never touched their lives in by promoting their welfare.

In their different speeches, the Vice-Chairman, Tricycle Association, Mr. Ikechukwu Ezike and Chairman, Okada Riders Association, Awka South, Mr. Aguluchukwu Nwosu, noted that the security installed by Obiano government contributed to success of transport business in the state.

The National Chairman, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye, recalled the Governor’s intervention through the economic stimulus package, where their daily contributions were suspended to the benefit of the cyclists.

Responding, Governor Obiano advised them to refrain from using their Okada to engage in snatching and robberies, but rather report suspicious movements to appropriate authority.

Obiano said he would continue to provide them with enabling factors that would enhance transportation.

He urged them to remain resolute and always express their support to APGA, and as well secure their votes in the November 18 governorship election.

Obiano also presented two brand new Sienna vehicles to the two unions to assist them in projecting his good works.
