NOA advocates organic farming to curb untimely deaths in Nigeria

Worried by the high mortality rate among Nigerians, the Ogun state office of National Orientation Agency has called on Farmers to engage in organic farming.

The Ogun state director of the agency, Mr. Sola Babalola, made the call in Abeokuta, while addressing members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, National Orientation Agency Chapel at a day seminar organised by the NOA NUJ chapel held at Okemosan, Abeokuta.

Babalola who spoke on the theme of the Seminar tagged  Wellness. Nutrition And Fertility Awareness” said many of the deaths being recorded in Nigeria are through what we eat or drink.

The Director said that the nation needs more farmers that do not need to depend on inorganic materials like fertilisers and other chemicals in order to save lives.

His words: “The agency is ready to enlighten Nigerians on the health implications on depending on inorganic agricultural foods like vegetables, fruits and others since researches have shown that many of our people die prematurely because of the consumption of vegetables and fruits that were planted with chemicals like fertilisers.

He added that science have proved to us that consumption of natural fruits and vegetables can prolong life span and reduce health related diseases like Cancer lung and heart diseases , but many of these vegetables are planted with chemicals that are harmful to our health, hence NOA is ready to collaborate with medical personnel and other stakeholders in raising more organic farmers.

Mr. Babalola, who was latter presented with the most outstanding and quintessential personality award of the year 2016, thanked Ogun NUJ chapel for the honour.

Earlier, the Ogun state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Wole Shokunbi, urged Nigerians to properly examine what they eat and drink so as to reduce high mortality rate in the country.
