No upward review of Minna handball complex contract’

The Niger State Government said it would not review upward the N64 million renovation works at the state handball complex which was awarded to an indigenous sports facility company.
The contract which was awarded in 2014 by the immediate past administration had released N30 million to the contractor but work was halted due to a bureaucratic bottleneck.
But with recent agreement reached between the state and the contractor, the government has agreed to pay up the balance immediately work reaches an advance stage.
Head of Facilities and Marketing in the Sport ministry, Mr. Fred Issiah, told Extra Time that government is fully committed to the project so as rebuild the handball complex.
According to him: “This contract is not a fresh one, we only have a good understanding with the contractor to effect the completion of work and he has agreed to finish the two courts without any additional cost from government.”
But the chairman of Mamtas, Hon Danjuma Masun disclosed that he was happy with the position of government, though the price of items have gone high especially now that most of the equipment needed to complete the job would be imported from Europe .
He said the two handball courts would be completed in a record time of six weeks and stressed that the moral of some of the players who visited the complex to have a glimpse of work going on have been very high.
It would be recalled that the Niger State handball complex was build to host the 1994 Commonwealth Handball Championship under the supervision of Major General ishola Williams (Rtd).
