No plot against Ekwernmadu –APC Senate whip

The Chief-whip of the House of Senate, Professor Sola Adeyeye has denied the purported claim that the APC Caucus in the Senate was plotting to impeach the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
It will be recalled that the APC Caucus in the Senate last week removed its leader, Ali Ndume and subsequently announced Ahmed Lawan as its new leader.
Consequently, the Senator representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District, Alhaji kabiru Maraffa on the same day urged the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekwerenmadu to defect to APC or face a possible impeachment.
Responding to this on Monday at the APC secretariat, Senate Chief whip and Senator representing Osun Central, Olusola Adeyeye, debunked the purported plan to impeach Ekweremadu saying the alleged plot was “mere speculation to overheat the polity.”
Adeyeye, who with the new Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan spoke with newsmen after the Senate APC Caucus meeting with the party leadership on Monday said he was part of every meeting by members of the APC in the Senate and there were no time talks on removal of Ekweremadu was discussed.
Speaking earlier, the National Chairman of the party, Cheif John Oyegun expressed regret that the crisis that rocked the Senate took more than a year before it was finally resolved.
He described the emergence of Lawan, the Senate leader as a landmark achievement for the party, Oyegun also commended the Senate President, Bukola Saraki for respecting and recognizing the “authority and supremacy of the party.”
“We all regretted that the crisis in the Senate took this long before it is finally resolved, we are glad that the authority and supremacy of the party has finally been recognized.
“Our confidence in you (Lawan) has been absolutely consolidating and it is a landmark achievement for you to become the Senate Leader” Oyegun said.
The APC Chairman also saluted the courage of the former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume for conceding and accepting the collective decision of the party adding that his removal was necessary to reunite the party.
“The Sacrifice Ndume made to accept the change of baton is for the interest of unity and for peace to reign in the party,” he added.
