No hiding place for tax defaulters in Lagos – AG
The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, has said the era of tax dodgers, evaders and defaulters in Lagos will soon be a thing of the past.
The Commissioner made this assertion on Tuesday at a press conference organised by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), to sensitize Lagosians on the strategies that are being put in place to simplify collection of taxes, which held at the Bagaulda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to Kazeem, “The extreme economic downturn in various economies today is no longer news, and the need for IGR becomes inevitable. The question has always been how. I must say the era of tax dodgers and defaulters in Lagos is over. The full weight of the law will be brought to bear on this matter as anyone found culpable will be dealt with.
“A Rapid Tax Prosecution Unit to be established and which will work with the LIRS will be set up. This has been approved and will soon commence operation. We at the Ministry of Justice promise 360 degrees support to the LIRS and will ensure that we join hands with them to make this process work,” he said.
