News coming from different schools in Nigeria has sent shivers and fear to female students and parents over incessant killing and raping of female students.

Hardly a month passes by without news of killing of a female student filtered the air.
A concerned woman whose daughter is in a university, said she has developed high blood pressure from hearing about the killings of girls in schools.

“During my time as an undergraduate in the university, we didn’t witness the horror of people killing and dismembering a lady’s body, so I’m surprised that some human beings have turned themselves to monsters” says Mrs. Glory Anyanwu.

A model and social media sensation, VeryDarkBlackMan has attributed it to society failure. He said that people worship wealth more than virtues. According to Otse, Nigerian societies worship the rich and look down on the poor, that is why people without fear of God are doing all sorts of evil to be rich.

He added that we should expect more evils days as long as people value money more than life.

He made the above statements in a video three days ago after reading about reports of the murder of a 300 level student of the University of Port Harcourt, Justina Otuene, by her boyfriend, Demain Okoligwe, a 400 level student of the same institution.

Rivers State Police Command paraded the suspect who denied killing the student before newsmen on Thursday, October 26.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka, said on Wednesday, October 25, that operatives of Ozuoba Division received a complaint from a good Samaritan and neighbor, name withheld, of Road 20, back of NTA Ozuoba that he went to his house where one Demain Okoligwe ‘m’ a fellow tenant resides and perceived a very bad odour and immediately rushed to the police station, where the DPO led detectives to the scene.

‘’On arrival, the door was forcefully opened, and a Ghana must-go bag containing a lifeless body was recovered back to the station”

The police boss said the fleeing suspect and boyfriend of the deceased, Demain Okoligwe ‘m’ 24 years old, a petrochemical engineering 400 level student of UNIPORT was arrested.

CP Emeka said the lifeless and butchered body of Justina Otuene, 20, a biochemistry 300-level student at Uniport, was recovered and deposited at the mortuary.
Emeka said that preliminary investigation is in progress and that the case has been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation.

He condoled with the family of the deceased victim and urged young ladies to be cautious and careful about any person they involves themselves with any form of relationship.

In the past one week, apart from Justina Otuene, whose corpse has been found, two other female students are missing.

Rachel Besem Ojong, a 300-level Marketing student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education is not yet found.

Also, Elizabeth Edoukumor is missing. She was last seen aroumd Eliozu, Port Harcourt, on October 9, 2023.

It is on note that a concerned Nigerian advised ladies to let someone know where they’re going and also be mindful of people they mingle with.

Worried by the missing of female students, the current Rivers State Chapter President of the Association of Nigerian Female Students, Comrade Okarike Christian Mirabelle, has called on security outfits in Rivers State, Government of Rivers State and all Education Agencies in Rivers State to save the female students.
She made this call in a statement on Friday, October 27, and wondered why there have been filed cases of more than three missing female students in less than one month.

In her words: “And as days go by, more cases of female student who are missing keep being reported. What about the recent case of the level 300 female student of the University of Port Harcourt who was murdered in cold blood by her boyfriend. Will justice not prevail for her?”

She went further to say that: “All we seek is justice for our slain female student. All we seek is protection for all female students in Rivers State. Do our female students deserve to be killed? Do our female students deserve to be abducted?”

Okarike called for an end to the menace, adding that the issue must be addressed and put to an end because, it could be anyone tomorrow.

In another scenario, students of Tai Solarin University Of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, protested the rising case of insecurity the student communities witnessed on Thursday, October 26.

It was reported that men of the underworld went to a hostel on Tuesday, raped four students, stole their valuables, transferred money from their bank accounts.

That is why the Students’ Union led the ‘walk against insecurity and rape’ to lend their voices to the security situation, create awareness about the dangers of rape, and show solidarity with the victims of the unfortunate event.

Some young girls these days are afraid to go out because they are afraid of being used for rituals. Families, parents and society should sensitize their children on the sacredness of human lives.
