Nigeria To Revive 6 Fertilizer Plants By Dec. 2017

Federal authorities in Nigeria are working really hard to boost agriculture in the country.
One strategy being adopted is to ensure self-sufficiency in fertilizer production.
A fortnight ago, the world’s largest fertilizer plant was opened in Port Harcourt by the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
But the Nigeria government is taking it a step further.
It is now planning to revive six fertilizer blending plants before the end of the year, through the Infrastructure Unit of its Sovereign Wealth Fund.
The Managing Director of Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Uche Orji said this on Monday in Abuja when the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed paid him a working visit.

The six plants set for revival across the country would bring the total number of operational fertilizer blending plants to 17.
According to Orji, the project is being done through the Fertiliser Initiative programme of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration which was conceived to make the commodity available to farmers at cheaper rates.
The NSIA boss notes that since the inception of the programme in December 2016, the authority haa delivered more than six million bags of fertilizer below market price to farmers.
Specifically, he said a bag of fertilizer which hitherto sold between 11,500 naira to 13,000 naira had been brought down to 5,500 naira per bag since January, 2017.
