NHRC Condemns Spate of Kidnapping
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has condemned in strong terms the spate of kidnapping in the country even as it vowed to intensify efforts in enforcing the rights of victims and ensure the culprits are punished in accordance with the law.
The Commission also expressed worries over the recent occurrence in Lagos State where three kids of the same parents were abducted by a nanny who was supposed to take care of them.
The Executive Secretary of NHRC, Prof. Bem Angwe who gave this indication while reacting to the recent abduction of the three kids who belonged to one Mr. Lere Orekoya advised parents and guardians not to entrust their children to strangers as such a practice may expose them to different forms of rights abuses.
He therefore decried the action of the nanny saying, “It beats human imagination that children who require utmost protection by the society are subjected to such inhuman treatment just for material benefit”.
Meanwhile, Prof. Angwe commended the Nigeria Police for rescuing the abducted kids even as he urged the members of the public to be vigilant and report cases of human rights violations to the security
agencies and the Commission for redress.
