NHIS sensitises stakeholders, enrolls 65,000 in Katsina
National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Katsina state office, has begun a two-day zonal sensitisation workshop for 100 stakeholders on Community Based Social Health Insurance programme (CBHIP).
The state’s NHIS Coordinator, Mr Ashiru Karaye, who made this known in Daura on Tuesday while declaring the workshop open, said that no fewer than 65, 000 people have been enrolled in the scheme in the state.
He said the participants, who are traditional rulers, religious and community leaders were expected to sensitise their people on the lofty objectives of the scheme.
Karaye called for their more commitment among stakeholders to ensure wider coverage of remote rural communities.
“This workshop is organised in collaboration with the Maternal and Child Health (MNCH2) programme in the state.
“We will simplify the mode of communication for easy comprehension and understanding at the workshop.
“The scheme has so far enrolled 10 registered associations in the state, who are presently reaping the benefits of the scheme.
“The procedure of accessing the scheme requires formation of a community maternal health association with a minimum of 1,000 registered members, who will monthly donate a minimum of N150.
“Other prerequisites include: opening of a bank account with a commercial bank in the name of the association, formation of the association’s board of trustee (BOT), identification of the facility to be used by the community.
“The association should also be formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC),’’ he explained.
The coordinator added that the scheme provides cash subsidy to pregnant women and children under-five years, stressing that only those who were enrolled will benefit.
He said that the scheme has disbursed N14 million into individuals account as cash subsidy in the registered communities of Danja, Dabai, Kahutu, Chediya, Tsangamawa/Dauraku, Mahuta, Funtua,Kurfi and Mashi Local Government Areas.
