NFF seek to end power disputes with reform committee

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have set up a reform committee which they hope will put an end to perennial power tussles that have caused the wrath of FIFA.

The NFF announced a reform committee headed by 1st Vice-President Seyi Akinwunmi and which has three months to work will among other things recommend “much-needed changes to NFF’s governance structure, electoral procedures and dispute resolution mechanism”.

The committee will also aim to provide stable foundations for football in Nigeria and ensure a commitment to good governance, inclusion and transparency in all areas of the NFF operations.

In August, Nigeria had to meet a deadline by FIFA to endorse the NFF executive committee led by president Amaju Pinnick after a long-drawn power tussle with a faction led by Chris Giwa secured a judgment from the country’s highest court to take over the federation.

The NFF, which is mainly funded by the Nigerian government, has also recorded similar leadership tussle over time and which needed the intervention of FIFA.
