All you need to know about AFRIMA 3.0

The third edition of the All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) might have come and gone but the activities that preceded the award night cannot be forgotten so easily by the participants and attendees. The three days event is indeed a memorable one which kicked-off Friday Nov 4-Sunday Nov 6, 2016. Life &Times brings tit bits from the AFRIMA 3.0

Afrima Music Roundtable

As part of the 2016 edition of the award, organizers of AFRIMA deemed it fit to discuss the music industry via a roundtable panelist comprising of the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed alongside Yeni Kuti; founder Felabration, Tony Okoroji; Copyright Society of Nigeria, Nachilala Nkombo; Director of the ONE campaign in Africa, Rikki Stein; Fela Kuti’s former manager, Sandra Oyewole; a partner at Olajide Oyewole LLP, Nigeria, Oye Akideinde, General Manager, Mobile Apps. TECNO, Kenny Ogungbe, CEO Kennis Music and Kelvin Orifa, Segment Manager, MTN Nigeria.

In his speech, Alhaji Lai noted that the music industry is at the stage where everyone needs to come together with the police and a special task force to tackle piracy. Other topic discussed at the roundtable includes copyright, distribution amongst others.

Afrima Music Village

Shortly after the success of the roundtable discussion, music lovers proceeded to the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Victoria Island on Friday Nov 5, 2016 as the best of Africa music talents all gathered to give an electrifying performance making it a night to remember in the history of African Music.

The massive music concert saw legends like Femi Kuti, Adewale Ayuba, Salawa Abeni and Ras Kimono take the stage. Other artistes on stage included fast rising Tanzanian music star, Diamond Platnumz, Naija Ninja, Sound Sultan, Aramide, Nneka, and Kelly Handsome among others.

Ambode hosts Afrima Nominees

As part of the treat, nominees on Saturday Nov. 5, 2016 embarked on a tour round the city of Lagos from the first stop at Freedom Park, to Fela Shrine and other exciting places; the tour came to an end as the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode fetes nominees of the prestigious award.

Ambode assured the nominees of their safety in Lagos and how excited the state is hosting the third edition of the award. Exciting the guests includes renowned saxophonist Yemi Sax, Kelly Blaq, Nigerian singer, Naomi Mac amongst others.

Noted faces in attendance includes the first lady Mrs. Bolanle Ambode and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State; Dr. Idiat Oluranti, Gambian singer Jizzle, highly sought-after Kenyan singer Avril, Ghanaian Hip-hop group VVIP, Kunle Afolayan, Moroccan artiste Soultan, Ethiopian band Mehari Brothers and several others.

Papa Wemba, Flavour, Wizkid, others win big at Awards Night

The much anticipated All Africa Music Awards has come and gone but the memories still linger on in the minds of those who attended especially the winners of the night that includes the special recognition awards received by King Sunny Ade, Late Papa Wemba and Manu Dibango. Other winners of the night includes Flavour, Wizkid, Aramide, Patoranking, Falz, Phyno& Olamide, Samini, Ahmed Soultan, Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Black Coffee (South Africa) amongst others.

It is important to note that guest had the opportunity to walk down the long red carpet; the event was however attended by the host governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Deputy Governor Lagos State, Dr Idiat Oluranti- Adebule, Commissioner of Information, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, members of the African Union amongst others.
