Ned Nwoko Golf Classic 2017 ends in Delta

The Ned Nwoko Invitation Golf Classic 2017 which teed-off at Linas Golf and Country Club, Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State, has ended on a good note.

The one-day event was contested by 25 players in both the male and female categories and the games were played in two rounds of 9 holes each to get 18 holes.

The event was graced by dignitaries including former sports personalities like former Olympic Bronze medalist, Mary Onyali, and Olajide Fashikun, a former captain of Nigeria Handball team.

Speaking to journalists during the event, Onyali said that she came to show support to Hon. Ned Nwoko in what he is trying to achieve in the sporting world and also advised aspiring golfers and prospective sportsmen to take interest in sports and be passionate about them.

According to her: “Today’s event is more like a charity event to support my friend. Golf is a relaxing sport, because of the outdoor nature of golfing; it elevates and clears the mind of issues bothering us. Apart from being an expensive sport, athletes in the US, quickly get scholarship from it.

“I have always advocated for those that are in sports, to do it passionately because scholarship helps you and your family financially and golf is one of the sports I strongly advise athletes to take to.”

The former sprinter also spoke about developing different sports in Nigeria through the ongoing ‘Nigeria Sports Development Fund’ project that is being carried out by herself, as the Technical Director and Fashikun as the Director General, with other ex-sports internationals.
