NANS warns herdsmen against further attacks

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ekiti axis, has accused the federal government of not doing enough to ensure the security of life and property of Nigerians,”which has warranted the level of insecurity caused by Fulani herdsmen presently terrorising the innocent Nigerians citizen”.
A statement by its Chairman, Cosmas Awopeju, in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, warned the marauding herdsmen to steer clear of Ekiti, threatening that students and “the youth would resist attempt to extend the criminal and senseless killings to the state.”
The statement said it had directed all the student union governments in all the tertiary institutions based in Ekiti State to nominate cadets and men for Students Joint Militia Front , which would be trained to ward off any attack from the herdsmen.
“While we express our condolences to the families of those killed in Benue, Enugu, Delta, Anambra and other states, we are baffled by the failure of the federal government to stop the destruction of farmlands, rape , armed robbery, kidnapping and, most painfully, the massacre of innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen.
“Most disturbing was the fact that students form very large percentage of the victims. If the federal government fails to secure our lives, we call on Oodua People’s Congress, all youth groups in the south-west and the Agbekoya Revolutionary Movement to be ready to defend the people from the aggressors.
“The appointment of the head of the militia front will be announced soon and all appropriate quarters will be communicated. If we must defend ourselves, we must start it now. We will continue to support the change agenda of the federal government, but the FG must first protect our lives and property to, enjoy our support”, he said.
