NAFDAC to check unregistered, counterfeit products with new compendium

To combat the influx of unregistered and counterfeit products in the country, Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Moji Christianah Adeyeye is to launch a new set of compendium of all registered Drugs, processed food, cosmetics, packaged water, medical devices and chemicals.

The Publishing of the new NAFDAC compendium which is a directory of all registered regulated products is said to be one of the major landmark achievements of Prof. Adeyeye since her assumption of office 9 months ago.

The NAFDAC compendium which was originally known as NAFDAC green pages was last published about 10 years ago.

The compendium was first introduced by the late Director – General of NAFDAC, Prof. Dora Akunyili as part of her concerted efforts to equip Nigerians with appropriate information that will help them distinguish between fake and unregistered Drugs, processed food and other regulated products.

Participants at the forthcoming two-day consultative meeting include Farmers, Manufacturers, Importers, Marketers of Animal feeds and poultry products, food products, cosmetics, pesticides, medical devices, herbal products and chemicals.

The consultative meeting will also afford the Director – General of NAFDAC opportunity to interact with the stakeholders to tackle some regulatory issues and challenges facing the food, herbal, medical devices, veterinary, chemical and allied industries.

Prof. Adeyeye will also announce her new policy measure to combat the influx of unregistered and counterfeit regulated products into the country.

The Director General stressed that the Agency takes very seriously the issue of attendance and participation of stakeholders at the consultative and therefore urged all Chief Executives Officers of invited companies to be physically present at the meeting.
