Muslim Cleric Tasks Buhari on Campaign Promises; Hails Jonathan on Peaceful Transition
An Ilorin based Islamic Cleric; Mallam Abubakar Aliyu Kamaldeen has called onthe President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) to ensure that he delives on his campaign promises to Nigerians.
Kamaldeen made the call on Wednesday in Ilorin during an interview with our Correspondent over the outcome of Saturday’s presidential
election.
The Cleric who is the Chief Imam of Elelu Central Mosque, Murtala Way, Ilorin also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat.
Kamaldeen commended President Jonathan for ensuring violence free power transition; adding that his name would be written in gold in the Nigeria history.
He therefore advised the President-elect to rule with the fear of God and to always remember that it is only God that put people in position of authority.
The Cleric admonished Gen. Buhari to take into cognizance Quran 3, verse 25 that God Who is the Possessor of power, kingdom and honour and give them to whom He wishes.
The Imam advised Buhari to be guided by three days of election processes, interest of the masses and to rely less on choice of who is who as his advisers and cabinet members.
Kamaldeen reminded Gen Buhari to remember that people spent large chunk of their time under scorching sun and rain to register, collect their PVCs and vote for him.
He implored the President-elect not to betray the confidence and love the downtrodden have to vote for him.
According to the Imam, it was Gen Buhari’s past record of integrity, honesty and discipline as a former Head of State that made the masses of Nigeria to vote for him.
In order to deliver good governance, Mallam Kamaldeen enjoined Gen Buhari to heed to the teachings of Prophet Mohammed that power is transient, love of money and women is evil and time will tell on whatever we do.
Kamaldeen said that Jonathan’s name would go down in the anal of Nigerian history as the first civilian president that was not power drunk.
He observed that had President Jonathan stuck to power and reneged on his promise to deliver free, fair, credible, acceptable and violence free elections, the country would have been in crisis by now.
