Ahead of the 41st edition of the prestigious Miss Nigeria beauty pageant billed to hold before the end of year; organisers have revealed that all is now set for the 2017 edition of the pageant which collides with the Diamond Jubilee anniversary edition of the most valued and oldest pageant in Nigeria.

Speaking on the preparations for this year’s edition, CEO Times Multimedia, Enyinne Owunwanne in an exclusive chat disclosed that this year’s casting call will kick off in three states that are Abuja (Nov.7), Port-Harcourt (Nov. 9) and Lagos (Nov.11-12).

“Unlike every other pageant, the Miss Nigeria platform is distinctive as we have this time around introduced a digital Pan-Nigerian call-to-entry campaign across Nigeria to further ensure adequate representation across all 37 states in this year’s competition.” Ms Owunwanne said.

Reiterating the focus of the pageant, Konnie Agu, Group Head, Business Development, Folio Media Group, noted that one of the driving powers of the Miss Nigeria platform is to empower Nigeria’s young women beyond beauty, as the focus of the pageant is not on physical appearance but on women who are intelligent, socially responsible and committed to making a difference in the country at large.

Sharing her experience on the platform, Chioma Obiadi,40th Miss Nigeria disclosed that being on the Miss Nigeria platform has further helped discover some of her hidden potentials and has been able to empower a lot of youths out there through the Green Girl project.

As she looks forward to passing the baton of leadership to another queen in few months time, Chioma noted that organisers of the pageant have further changed the perspective people have towards pageantry in Nigeria which dwells more on the beauty than intellect; but the Miss Nigeria platform solely focuses on the 90% of intellect and 10% of the outer look.

Like the tradition, the winner of the prestigious crown will be awarded a luxury car, N3Million, one-year free accommodation in Lagos and other amazing prizes and benefits.

It is pertinent to note that the Miss Nigeria platform does not include swimsuit competition, it’s a pageant which takes pride in exuding modesty. The pageant is however open to contestants between the ages of 18-25.
