Mimiko Inaugurates Committee for Teachers' Salary, Welfare Review
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, on Friday, inaugurated a 13-man Teachers’ Salary, Welfare Review Committee to look into the package and welfare of teachers in public secondary schools.
Speaking in Akure, Mimiko said his administration is ready to create more child-friendly environment for effective teaching and learning.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Kola Ademujimi, said, the quality education could only be achieved when teaching personnel performed the duties for which they were appointed for.
Mimiko assured that the state government had put in place robust welfare packages and capacity building programmes for teachers and education managers to ensure better service delivery.
He urged the Committee to focus on minimum standards of secondary school education, realities of location of posting of staff and duty post allowance.
Mr Jide Adejuyigbe, the Commissioner for Education, expressed delight that the state government decided to review upward the general welfare of teachers.
Represented by Mr Yomi Ogedengbe, the Director of Schools, Ministry of Education, the commissioner urged members of the Committee to work for the realisation of its aims and objectives.
Dr Bakitta Bello, the Chairman, Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), said that the state government’s move was to strengthen the Commission for efficient and effective service delivery.
Bello stressed the need for the Committee to review all aspects of career matters of teachers and make recommendations to the state government for consideration.
He said it was also to look into approval of all allowances relating to TESCOM staff.
The chairman promised to give the Committee all necessary assistance for it to succeed.
