Mile 12 riot: Lagos takes over prosecution

Lagos State government is set to prosecute all the suspects arrested in connection with the riot that occurred in the popular Mile 12 market, Kosofe Local Government Area of the state on March 3, 2016.

According to the Assistant D‎irecctor, Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Jide Martins, Lagos State government has taken over the prosecution of all the suspects arrested in connection with the riot, including the 28 new set that were arraigned on Thursday before Magistrate (Mrs.) Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, sitting in Ikeja.

Martins announced the development after Police Prosecutor, Etim Eno-Edobor, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), had arraigned the suspects and the charges read out to them through an interpreter.

A total number of 177 persons had been arraigned before three Magistrate courts sitting in Ikeja, including 89 that were arraigned on Wednesday.

The other two Magistrates are Mrs. A.O. Layinka‎ and Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi.

All the 28 defendants had pleaded not guilty to the two count charge offence preferred against them.

The count charge include; the defendants with others at large, were alleged to have conspired amongst.
