Miango Killings: President of Catholic Bishops appeal for calm

The Nigeria President of Catholic Bishops Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama on Sunday appeal to Christians to let go of the bitterness that would have led to the crisis that engulfed Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, where over 62 persons have lost their lives in the series of attack.

Kaigama stated this in Jos during a Pastoral visit to the affected Community in Jebbu Bassa LGA where the Fulani and the Irigwe communities have experienced hostility for the past three weeks.

He appeal to the affected communities and the church to use the word of God as the only weapon of war in combating challenges rather than allowing themselves to be used by devilish people to kill and destroy each other.

“We have allowed ourselves to be used by mostly politicians to cause division among us: religion has become a tool to coax people to turn to another region other than their own, using it as a tool to oppress people.

“For people to get promotion in their place of work, they will be coaxed into renouncing their religion and change to another before they will be promoted or get a job.
“When u kill and shout the name of God you are offending God because that is not what God commission you to do”, Kaigama said.

Responding, the Secretary General, Gan Allah Fulani Developement Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), Alhaji Saleh Bayeri, laud the Bishop for calling all aggrieved parties to bury their hate and embrace peace.

Bayeri said the Fulani and the natives have lived together for long, calling on mischief makers to desist from beating the drum of war.

Our correspondent reports that the occasion was also use to mark the 25th anniversary of Saint Gabriel Parish, in Bassa LGA.
