Man strangled to death over N30m debt

A middle-aged man from Nkpor-Uno, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state has allegedly lost his life over a debt he owed a business partner.
The victim whose names were yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report was said to be a motor mechanic who operated a mechanic workshop along Mercedes Avenue, Nkpor before the unfortunate incident.
A reliable source told our reporter that before his death, the victim was allegedly owing a businessman in the area about N30 million worth of car tyres supplied to him to sell on behalf of the businessman. However, when the goods were sold, the supplier, having been informed by his close associates about a successful disposal of the products approached the deceased to give a detailed account of the sales which he reportedly declined.
Our reporter reliably gathered that each time the supplier visited the victim’s workshop with the aim of collecting his money, the latter often denied making sales.
Not satisfied with the explanations he received each time he visited the victim’s workshop, the businessman was said to have angrily left the victim’s workshop warning that he would never pay another visit to him, insisting that his own part of the money must be remitted to him.
However, the victim, who had been living in opulence since he was offered the distribution of the tyres was said to have closed for work one evening and was relaxing with his family when he received a telephone call probably from one of his numerous customers requesting him to meet him at an undisclosed location at Nkpor, his area of residence.
The request the victim instantly obliged and immediately left to meet his ‘’business partners” at about 8pm last week Wednesday, a journey he embarked on and never returned till date. It was, however, the next day that his lifeless body was found near a valley located in the area. Family members have since been thrown into confusion on what must have led to the man’s untimely death.
When contacted for his comment, the DPO, Ogidi, Police Station, Mr. Hassan Musa told our correspondent on phone that the matter has been transferred to the State CID, Awka for investigation
