Man to spend 1 month in prison over phone theft

An Ikeja Magistrate Court has ruled that a 25-year-old unemployed man, Ayobami Micheal, will be spending the next one month in Kirikiri Prisons for stealing phone worth N60, 000.
The sentence was passed on the phone thief without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the charge and he had pleaded for leniency before his sentenced was pronounced.
While sentencing the convict, Magistrate , O.A. Layinka, who said:“Based on the facts of this case confirmed in the report and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to one month in prison without an option of fine.’’
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr. Donjor Perezi told the court that Michael, whose address is unknown, was arraigned and charged for stealing.
Perezi said the accused stole a mobile phone valued at N60,000 on May 6 at 2.00 p.m. at No. 22, Awolowo way, Ikeja, Lagos.
The accused, who entered the shop of the complainant, Obiora Chinyeaka, on the pretext of buying a mobile phone, stole the phone and ran away, he said.
“The accused had told the seller that he wanted to buy a Huawei P8 mobile phone and asked the complainant to bring out the phone to have a look before making payment.
“Within split seconds, Micheal absconded with the phone and was nowhere to be found until he was recently apprehended on May 22.”
Perezi further informed the court that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
