Man, 27, gets N200, 000 bail over alleged attempt to steal school bus

A 27-year-old man, Sheu Abubakar by name allegedly attempted to steal a school bus belonging to Universal White College, was on Wednesday granted a N200, 000 bail by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, ordered that the accused should as well provide two sureties in like sum, as part of the bail condition.
He also directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Komolafe then adjourned the case to May 18, for mention.
The accused, who is of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted theft.
Earlier the Prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 12, at No. 34, Daddy Savage St., Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.
He alleged that the school’s security guard, Ikenna Ibara, caught the accused inside the bus, tampering with the ignition.
“The guard raised an alarm and the accused was apprehended and was brought to the police station.
“Different items such as a screw driver, blade, lighter and some keys were found on him,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 21 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
