LIMCAF Exhibition: Puts Artworks On Runway, Encourages Creativities

Art works in horizontal and in landscaping forms are all placed on runway at Life In My City Art Festival(LIMCAF).

This was revealed by Chief Research officer, National Gallery of Art(NGA) Anthony Udokporo, during the LIMCAF 2022 exhibition, held at NGA Uyo, Cross River State.

According to him, the event theme ‘The Paradox of Muted Echoes’ aimed at promoting contemporary visual art exhibited by various artists.

“In this edition, the young participated artists were encouraged, promoted and rewarded as a result of their creativities.

Speaking at the exhibition, Udokporo stated the art festival theme each year allowed participating artists sending their works to various regions where they would be selected and exhibited.

Also, he said that selected art works would be taken to Enugu for the grand finale and presentation of cash awards and more. This has made the event competitive amongst participants.

“The winning works from Uyo/Calabar region will be transported to Enugu for the grand finale, where they will receive prizes and awards which had been the practice of LIMCAF since 2007. The grand finale exhibition will hold between 22nd to 29th October, 2022 at the International Conference Center, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.”

This year the theme is “The Paradox of Muted Echoes”, it is remarkable that the artists that sent their works are now enjoying the visibility of their creativities as their works are being exhibited at NGA Uyo. All the works of the artists convey messages centered on the theme for this year’s event and that was done in diverse ways, styles, techniques, and the media.

Meanwhile, the day also, experienced, Curator of NGA Uyo, Mr. Michael James Offiong who rendered the address of LIMCAF Art Director, Dr. Ayo Adewunmi that took time to highlight the activities of LIMCAF, since its inception. Notable among the attendees were the following; Prof. Godfrey Okon Udo, former DVC, University of Uyo, who served as the Chairman of the occasion and played a vital role of declaring the exhibition open; Prof. Best Ochigbo and Prof. Anthony Okonofua dished out words of wisdom from the visual arts ambience, likewise Dr.Clement Ekong, who functioned as the special guest of honour at the event.

The mentioned scholars are all from the Department of Fine and Industrial Art University of Uyo. Other dignitaries at the event were Dr. Isaac Ikediashi of the Department of Building University of Uyo and Esv Uyobung Etuk, Secretary Nigerian Institution of Estate, Surveyors and Valuers, Akwa Ibom State Chapter as well as Elder (Dr.) Bassey.O. Ekpa, a retired Civil Servant.

It could be recalled that, the Executive Director of LIMCAF, Chief Kelvin Ejoifor during the recently concluded LIMCAF 2022 exhibition in Lagos noted, ‘there are eight regions for this year which include Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Auchi, Osun, Port Harcourt, Uyo and Enugu.’
