LG poll:NANS lauds Ugwuanyi for allocating youths 50% slots

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for allocating youths 50 per cent chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions in the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming council election in Enugu state.

NANS Vice-President (National Affairs), Chidi Ilogebe, made the commendation in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday.
It would be recalled that the Enugu state Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) had scheduled to conduct local government elections on February 29.
Ilogebe said that the attention of NANS has been drawn to a second to none and positive decision of Gov. Ugwuanyi to groom, encourage and support youths in governance.
“Information at our disposal reveals that the governor in his magnanimity was able to persuade, convince, and follow up to the latter on the need for party stakeholders and delegates to support and allocate positions to the youths.
“Over 50 per cent of the local government chairmanship and vice-chairmanship slots within his political party, the PDP has been allocated to youths in the forthcoming local government elections.
“This is aside other political appointments given to youths in his cabinet; a feat we consider second to none and first of its kind in Nigeria,’’ he said.
According to him, Nigerian students commend the governor for his unflinching love, passion, and affection towards the growth and development of Nigerian students and youths most especially in Enugu state.
“And in lieu of this, we are saying thank you, for always displaying an unwavering love to Nigerian students and youths,’’ he added.

The NANS vice-president called on other democratically progressive minded governors to emulate Gov. Ugwuanyi in his quest to ensure the active participation of youths in governance, aimed at discovering -hidden leadership potentials of youths and in line with the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Act advocacy.
“NANS is finally calling on all Nigerian students to remain peaceful, law -abiding and great ambassadors of our dear country Nigeria, and shun acts that are capable of causing pandemonium anywhere in the country,’’ he added.
