Lawan heads 10-member APC National Reconciliation C’ttee

After due consultation, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed a high-level ten-member National Reconciliation Committee chaired by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

This, according to party’s spokesman, Lanre Issa – Onilu, was in line with the November 22, 2019 resolution of the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Other members of the committee are: First (Interim) APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande (Vice Chairman); Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase; Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura; Sen. Kashim Shettima; Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor; Alh. Nasiru Aliko Koki; Sen. Khairat Gwadabe-Abdulrazak; Sen. Binta Garba and Sen. John Enoh (Secretary).

The Committee is empowered to address grievances of party members and resolve existing conflicts, all with a view to fostering unity and oneness within the party.

The statement said that committee members will be informed of the date for inauguration.

Meanwhile, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has expressed shock and sadness over the tragic news of the death of Senator Ben Uwajumogu who represented Imo North Senatorial District of Imo state until the sad incident on Wednesday.

Lawan commiserated with the family of the deceased Senator and the government and people of Imo State over the tragic loss.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi, Lawan also condoled with distinguished senators and friends of the departed senator. 

He recalled that Senator Uwajumogu was full of life at the Senate Chamber on Tuesday, which made the news of his death even more difficult to take.

“But God gives and takes in line with his supreme sovereignty so we cannot question His will.

“Senator Uwajumogu’s sudden death is shocking and a painful loss to the ninth National Assembly where he always made robust contributions to the debates and other activities of the Upper legislative chamber. He will be greatly missed by all of us his colleagues and staff of the Senate,” Lawan said.

The Senate President prayed that God Almighty will comfort his loved ones and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

In another development, the Senate on Wednesday approved of N140, 383,591,000 for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the 2020 fiscal year.

The approval came following consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Communications during plenary.

Chairman of the Communications Committee, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while giving a breakdown of the Commission’s total expenditure for the year 2020, said that N39, 297,044,000 is for recurrent expenditure and N20, 863,699,000 for special projects.

The lawmaker added that out of the total budget for the Commission, the sum of N8,129,462,000 is for capital expenditure, N64,208,446,000 for Transfer to Federal Government, and N7,500,000,000 as Transfer to the Universal Service Provision Fund.

In a related development, the Senate on Wednesday also approved the sum of N11, 594,920,847 for the Universal Service Provision Fund for the 2020 fiscal year.

The approval came after consideration of the report of the Committee on Communications chaired by Senator Tinubu.

Out of the total amount approved, N2, 354,055,799 is for recurrent expenditure, N196, 108,610 for capital expenditure and N9, 044,756,438 for USPF projects and programmes.
