Lagos lawmaker charges stakeholders to cooperate with INEC

Following the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a Lagos House of Assembly member has called on all stakeholders to give maximum support to the electoral umpire conduct credible elections. Chief Whip of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Rotimi Abiru made this call at the Bariga area of Lagos after the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections was announced. “The postponement was most unfortunate and least expected,” the lawmaker representing Shomolu Constituency 02 stated. He stressed that the postponement had a lot of implications on the nation’s image as well as doing unquantifiable damage on the economy. Abiru however expressed the belief that INEC is prepared and therefore, called on all stakeholders to support the electoral commission for it to deliver free, fair and credible elections. Commenting on the killings in Kaduna state and other parts of the country where sensitive electoral materials were burnt, the lawmaker called for a thorough investigation to prevent a recurrence. Abiru urged Nigerians to remain calm and charged security agencies in the country to remain neutral while cooperating, and supporting the electoral body in conducting free, fair and credible elections.
