Abiru in a statement he personally signed, noted that he was particularly saddened by the development, because besides being an astute grassroots politician, a thorough progressive, a political pathfinder and liberator, a cheerful giver and a super benefactor to many, Senator Oshinowo is a man who diligently served the people of Lagos State with all the renewed vigour and determination.

He said, “The news of the death of an astute grassroot politician, thorough Progressive, a political pathfinder and liberator, a cheerful giver and a super benefactor to many, Senator Adebayo Sikiru Oshinowo came as rude and offensive shock to me and the good people of Bariga in Shomolu constituency of Lagos State.

“I’m yet to come to realities with the news of his demise, the man who diligently served the people of Lagos State with all the renewed vigour and determination, I sincerely wish the news of his demised is a day dream and not true.

“Oshinowo, as a four time member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, (2003 – 2019) was not only the stabiliser but the pillar and conscience of the legislative House with consistent support and wise counsel to the leadership of the House in his 16 years sojourn in the Assembly before moving to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after his resounding victory at the 2019 general election where he represented the Lagos East Senatorial District and served as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Commerce and Industry before his final exit from the planet earth.

“Oshinowo was a general in the Nigeria political corridor, he fought so many battles along with other generals to liberate the nation from the grip of the military dictators who made offensive incursion into the governance of the country, he was harassed, persecuted, bullied and imprisoned in the struggle to liberate the nation especially, during the struggle to revalidate the June 12, 1993 election.

“The late distinguished Senator was a parliamentarian per excellence and remains one of the nation’s heroes of current democracy to which some of us are beneficiaries today. His death at this time, no doubt is a great loss not only to his family members, legions of beneficiaries,  Lagos as a state, but to the entire country which is currently benefiting from his political and administrative endowment.

“Oshinowo’s sense of humour which he often used to inject life and to douse tension inside the hallow chamber during his stay at the Lagos Assembly was another quality and attribute that described and stood him out.

“My cordial relationship of leader to follower, friend to friend, teacher to student, mentor to beneficiary with Pepperito was substantially perfect till his last breath and I remain bereaved with his demise.

“My sincere condolences to his immediate family members, the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Jagaban Borgu, the Lagos APC family, the leadership and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the leadership and the entire members of the Nigeria Senate and the National Assembly as a whole.

“May Oshinowo’s soul be comforted and find rest.  I wish him Aljanat fidau. Adieu my leader and mentor,” Abiru said.
