Lagos Hotels Lost N8b to Ebola- Govt

The Lagos State Government yesterday revealed that Hotels in the state recorded a loss of over N8 billion within the months of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in 2014.
Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-governmental relations, Mr. Disun Holloway, and the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Films and Video Censors Board, Mr. Dele Balogun, disclosed this at the 2015 ministerial press briefing held in Alausa Secretariat.
According to Holloway, “The impact of Ebola on hotel patronage was significant. The patronage fell from 76 percent to 35 percent for a period of four months that the disease lasted. It really affected the turnover of the hotels.”
The commissioner noted that when the impact assessment of the EVD was carried out on the 12 top hotels in the state within the period, “they lost about N8 billion. And in a year, they (12 hotels) make a turnover of about N46 billion.”
Explaining the lost, Holloway says, “The hotels were losing about N2 billion per months. This was only applicable to big hotels out of the over 3, 200 hotels identified in the state.”
