Kogi police command arrests 2 kidnappers, victim rescued

Kogi state police command last week arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim identified as Sunday Amupitan.
The victim was said to have been abducted from his Surulere, Kabas residence on July 19, tied up and dumped in the booth of a Honda car.
A statement from the Kogi state Police public relations officer, William Aya, said that on the day at about 10.23pm, acting on a distress call that one Sunday Amupitan has been abducted at the Surulere quarters in Kabba, operatives from Kabba division led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly moved to the scene and pursued the suspects who were already racing away from the scene in a Honda Accord vehicle with Reg. No. APP 444 DA.
William Aya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said that in a bid to escape arrest, the hoodlums’ get away car hit three motorcyclists; they then abandoned the vehicle and fled.
According to him, the Area Commander of Kabba led a team of personnel to comb the scene with a view to identifying the suspects at large, and a GSM handset, suspected to belong to one of the kidnappers, was recovered.
He said that quick analysis of the phone led to the arrest of one of the suspects named Ayodele, aged 30 years of Garupa street Kabba, and on interrogation, confessed to been a member of the kidnap gang and also revealed the names of the fleeing members of the syndicate.
According to the police spokesman, further investigation led to the arrest of one of the suspects named Tunde Emmanuel alias Eleje of Odo-Ofin Kabba.
He said that the victim, Amupitan, was rescued from the booth of the vehicle where he was bound and dumped.
Effort is on going to track and arrest the fleeing kidnap suspects and will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation,” he said.
ASP Aya said that the Kogi State Police Command will not relent in its determined efforts to rid the state of crime and criminality through a proactive crime preventing strategies adopted in ensuring that citizens are safe.
