Kogi election dispute: Smart Adeyemi’s lawyer alleges burgling of his office

In what may be consider a politically motivated attack, the lawyer who is defending Senator Smart Adeyemi before the Election Petitions Tribunal, Dr. Oladapo Otitoju has said that some armed hoodlums burgled his law firm located in the Mpape new layout area of Abuja early on Sunday.

Otitoju is the lead lawyer to Adeyemi, who is a respondent in the petition filled by Senator Dino Melaye and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in which they are challenging the outcome of the Kogi-West senatorial district rerun election, won by Adeyemi of the All progressives Congress (APC).

The lawyer said the armed hoodlums, numbering about seven invaded the office at about midnight and tied the security man on duty while they ransacked his office.
Otitoju, who said he is yet to fully ascertain the quantum of damage done by the invaders, noted that the incident occurred three days after the petitioners closed their case before the tribunal.
The lawyer noted that, in the process of forcing their way into his office, the hoodlums damaged doors, windows and other valuables.
He said unknown to the hoodlums, no document relating to the case before the tribunal was kept in the office.
“My office was attacked by suspected armed gang looking for documents of cases in court.
“Unknown to them, the documents and files of cases were not kept in the office,” he said.
