Kogi communities laud Dangote Cement Company’s interventions

Four communities in Kogi State have lauded the management of Dangote Cement Company at Obajana for the provision of school, hospital and other interventions worth N1 billion.
The host communities — Apata, Iwaa, Obajana and Oyo — noted in a statement that the company’s intervention in the socio-economic needs of the people was a good example of a Corporate Social Responsibility of an organisation to the society.
The traditional ruler of Oyo, Oba Solomon Obahawu, noted that the company had resettled people displaced from their land and also provided social amenities toward making life more meaningful for them.
“The philanthropic activities of the Dangote Cement include yearly scholarships running into millions of naira, construction of school and hospital as well as the construction of road.
“The company has provided job opportunities for our people particularly youths and also gave them contracts,” he said.
The monarch, however, urged the company to scale up job opportunities being offered members of the community.
While commending the company for the hospital, he urged the government to complement the company’s effort by providing drugs and more health workers.
The Oba of Iwaa, Francis Migbole, also expressed appreciation to the company for the ongoing hospital project in the community.
The economic empowerment programme it started for women in Iwaa and the contract awards to the people are noteworthy, he said.
For the monarch of Obajana, Idowu Isenibi, the ongoing reconstruction of 42.5 km Obajana-Kabba concrete road and provision of two transformers by the company has brought great relief.
On his part, Isenibi’s counterpart at Apata, Oba Frederick Balogun, promised that the people would ensure the protection of Dangote’s investment in the area including the company and the water facility.
