KANSIEC chairman assures free, fair LG poll in Kano

The Chairman Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka, has assured that the state electoral commission has made adequate arrangements to ensure that the forth coming Local Government elections slated for 10th February 2018 is free and fair.
Sheka made this known while briefing news men at his office on preparations put in place for the much anticipated election.
According to him, the state government has set aside billions of naira for the election in order to have a hitch -free election and has mandated them on credible, just, free and fair election. Adding that there is no need for any political party or contestant to fear any form of bias on the part of the commission as all candidates and political parties would be accorded same treatment.
“Stakeholders must play their role well for us to be able to conduct a credible election. If political parties and the voters do what is expected of them in line with the rules and regulations laid down for every election, things would be made easy for our commission. We do not have a candidate or party we support, we assure all participants
of free and fair election.
He further disclosed that the commission is working hard to ensure that all sensitive and non-sensitive materials needed for the election are provided on time so as to avoid any form of setback.
“We are trying our best to see that everything needed for that day is on ground before the fixed date. And we would ensure that our Ad-Hoc staffs be available on time at their various units. We have also taken into consideration the eventuality of having to have a re-run in some areas which we cannot completely rule out, but I want the public to know that necessary measures to be taken are already in place” He said.
The Local Government election would be a testing ground for political parties whom lost out in the 2015 general elections to apply new strategies they’ve adopted as they warm up towards the next general elections comes 2019.
