Insecurity: UNIJOS closes hostels over fear of attack

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has requested students to vacate their hostels immediately.
A statement signed by Chief Monday Danjem, the Registrar/Secretary to Senate on the official Facebook page of Abdullahi Abdullahi the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications of the institution, clarified the Senate unanimously ratified the decision.
It also specified that all hostels should remain closed to undergraduate and post-graduate students until the Plateau Commissioner of Police issues a favorable security report.
The advice came after a meeting with representatives of the student unions, the Commissioner of Police, and other security agencies, according to the release.
The students were given two weeks to review the situation with security agencies.
The Senate also decided to postpone second semester lectures for undergraduate students until June 7, 2021, pending a review of the security situation.
Postgraduate students, on the other hand, would continue their academic pursuits.
Several students at the university reported to our correspondent that they had been told to leave their hostels immediately.
