Insecurity: Adeyemi College Ondo bans male entry into female hostel

The Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) in Ondo state has banned all entries into the female students hostel on campus. Olaniyi Olaluwoye, Dean Students Affairs of the institution convey the message in a circular obtained on Thursday.

Olaluwoye said the ban was necessary for the safety and privacy of the female students residing in the hall of residence on campus.

He stated that the ban also covers both the visiting and non visiting hours on the institution’s campus.

“This is to inform visitors (within and outside the college that it is no allowed for a male visitor to go inside the room of female students in the hall of residence”.

“Visitors are to meet with the porters on duty and make enquires about whoever they want to meet and such female student should come to the porter’s lodge to meet her visitors” he said.

The Daily Times gathered that the new decision was taken by the management of the school following the prevalence cases of kidnap of its female students.

Our correspondent reported that no fewer than four female students of the Adeyemi College had been kidnapped in different occasions in the past two months from the campus.

Two of the students, Oladapo Blessing and Mary Oluwasemilore were later found dead in a tick bush by the police with their body already decomposed.

Investigation by the police showed that the duo were killed for ritual purposes while about four suspects were arrested in connection to the crime.

Another female student, Oluwaseun Mary Olaniyan, who had been declared missing narrowly escaped from the den of the kidnappers on Tuesday.

Miss Olaniyan, an history department student said she was abducted by four heavily grown up men inside an Ondo state taxi service.

The young lady narrated how she also became unconscious after she boarded the taxi and woke up inside a tick forest.

According to her, the abductors fed her with stream water for eleven days while in captivity.

The female student also disclosed that she saw wealthy men driving into the tick bush to collect human flesh which was concealed in a cellophane bag.

She described her escape from the den of the kidnappers as “miraculous” noting that no fewer than five victims were still being trapped in the forest.

Already, the Education Right Campaign (ERC) has called on the management of the institution to build up security to avoid incessant kidnap of students.

The group said the issue of security within and outside the campus mostly for the female students needs serious attention.

Owoyomi Damilola Owot, Coordinator of ERC in Ondo state who made the call in a statement, threatened that they would mobilize against the management of the school if a lasting solution is not found to the case of insecurity on the campus.
