Imo Emerges Best Performing State in ICT Development

Imo State has beaten the rest 35 states across the country, to emerge the overall best in ICT development and third best state in E-Government Implementation in Nigeria.

The Awards were presented at the 7th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications and Digital Economy (NCCDE 2019) organized by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, which took place in Gombe State.

In a statement over the weekend, the Imo State Commissioner for Technology Development, Nze Meekam Mgbenwelu who received the awards, said the good news confirmed government’s commitment to ICT development in Imo State.

He said Governor Emeka Ihedioha has made ICT development a top priority in the State since his assumption of office, adding that this move has massively improved service delivery in Imo State.

The 7th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications and Digital Economy, which was chaired by the Hon. Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, gave States the opportunity to showcase ICT activities in their various States, particularly success stories in their application of ICTs in solving governance and development issues.

The Minister expressed delight at the committed efforts of the Imo State Government to the development of ICT in the State, and the Country at large.

The Minister also expressed the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with Imo State to achieve the nation’s vision of rapid transition to a functional digital society as envisioned by Governor Ihedioha.

The NCCDE meeting which was hosted by the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, had the theme: Leveraging the Gain of ICT in Developing and Implementing Digital Economy Strategy in Nigeria.
