Ikpeazu to build export processing zone in Abia

The Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu on sunday disclosed that the state had commenced the building of an export processing zone in the state capital, stressing that modalities for the project was at an advanced stage, adding that the state would soon be classified as one of the cities with an export processing zone.

Ikpeazu stated this at a grand reception held in his honour by the Ukwa-Ngwa Town Union, Lagos Branch at the National Theatre, Iganmu, noting that the state government has acquired 9,000 hectares of land for the project which would be known as export processing zone.

He disclosed that several rural roads in the state had been constructed since his administration assumed office, adding that agriculture and industrialisation of the state remained the priority of his administration.

He said: “we have acquired land for the export processing zone and work has started. If you go round Abia you would see the difference to when we met on ground. We are using grade A contractors in all the construction work, the first fly over is being constructed in the state, Cement pavement technology is what would be used in the construction.” Ikpeazu said.

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the president of Ukwa -Nkwa Social Club, Sir Sam Onukwue disposed that the essence of the gathering was to celebrate the governor for his tenacity and courage to defend the mandate giving to him by Abians.

He commended the governor for his visionary leadership in the state since he assumed office , adding that the Ukwa- Nkwa people were very proud, while urging him to extend a hand of fellowship to his opponent’s who lost out in his recent Supreme victory.

In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Darl Uzu praised the governor for transforming the state since he assumed office, stressing that there has been massive investment, infrastructures, education and agriculture.

The chairman commended the administration for constructing several roads in Aba, including the federal ones which had previously been abandoned by previous administration, while imploring the him to do more.

In a paper presentation by Professor Ikechi Mbeoji of the Department of Finance, University Of Lagos, (UNILAG), noted that the election of an Ukwa-Nkwa as the governor of the Abia State was a milestone in the history of the state, adding that the region had been marginalised and neglected by previous administrations.
