Ibrahim, Okon talk tough ahead NWFL Super 4

Nasarawa Amazons captain and centre back, Mariam Ibrahim and Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon are bullish ahead of the upcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) annual Super Four championship.

The Lafia landladies are runners-up in the eight-team Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Group B behind leaders, Delta Queens while the Garden City side finished second behind Bayelsa Queens in Group A for the clash of the titans at the season’s prime tournament – NWFL Super Four.

Ibrahim said her side have their eyes fixed at the top-flight coveted trophy right from the commencement of the out-gone regular season.

“We thanked God for making it to the Super Four as our target has always been to clinch the league top prize for the second time.

“Individually and collectively we are working very hard to ensure our lofty dream to be crowned champions becomes a reality.

“We see the NWFL Super Four as strictly business not a jamboree or sightseeing as we are determined to crown our effort with the title.

“Of course, we have no reason to be afraid or scared of the other challengers, Delta Queens, Bayelsa Queens and title holders, Rivers Angels.

“We somehow understand that we are the side others would give everything to avoid in the Super Four and not the other way round.

“We do not unnecessarily brag rather we allow our performance on the field of play to speak for us. None of the other teams is a threat to us to lifting the coveted trophy as I strongly believe this is our year to mount the podium.

“Our prayer is for the four teams to be given level playing ground to showcase their football potentials and skills,” said the Lafia side strongwoman.

Okon said his side are not in a hurry to relinquish the league crown the Jewel of Rivers have won a record five times.

The NWFL Super Four will determine the Nigerian champions for the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) season. Rivers Angels are the Nigerian reigning champions.
