How police prevent girl child abuse, other crimes in A’Ibom

It was another season for harvest of crime suspects in Akwa Ibom Thursday as the state commissioner of police Musa Kimo paraded those he described as “cursed people in their generation” for offences many considered a crime against humanity. The crimes include sales of children, child stealing, child defilement and child kidnapping. Addressing correspondents at the state police headquarters Ikot Akpan Abia, the police boss paused while pointing to a lanky young man Joseph Effiong 29, one of the suspects arrested. Continuing, the police commissioner in an emotion laden voice said ” this man lured little Miss Mfoniso Nse Okon 4 year old to an uncompleted building and defiled her. Another pathetic incident as narrated by Musa Kimo was the arrest of one Joseph Sunday Essien of Ifa Ikot Obong in Uyo local government area who defiled his own step daughter Miss Patience Edet Eden. The case that evoked sympathy was the incident that involved a ten year minor one Miss Mfon Sunday Okon from Use Offot in Uyo council area. According to the Police commissioner, the minor was defiled by Edet Inyang Edem (now in police custody) and thereafter abandoned the victim at Use Offot market square in the pool of blood that oozed out from her private part. Another incident that stunned all was the arrest of Joseph Akpanowo who allegedly stole his one year and four months old daughter Miss Goodness Joseph and sold her to one Nyaknno Uwa residing at Port Harcourt. Kimo said Akpanowo sold his daughter for the sum of One hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000). He said part payment of one hundred and twenty five thousand was paid, leaving the balance to be settled before police intercepted in the transaction. Kimo assured the victims that all the suspects would be arraigned in court as the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the suspects are made to face full wrath of the law for justice to the victims.
