Hate speech: Obiano’s aide calls for caution
The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Special Duties and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Dr. Mrs. Amaka Akudo, has advised politicians to focus on issue based campaign and desist from attacking political opponents.
Hon. Akudo, who was reacting to a video that recently went viral on the social media where a gubernatorial candidate of a political party in the November 18, 2017 governorship election was allegedly seen disparaging Governor Obiano, appealed to Governor Obiano’s political opponents to shun unnecessary bickering, mudslinging and campaign of calumny.
Akudo, who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Anambra Times at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Akwaeze in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, frowned at the way and manner opposition politicians threw tantrums on the person of Governor Willie Obiano, urging them to respect a constituted authority.
According to the Special Adviser who noted that Anambra State was not known for violent and dangerous politics, said if what she described as ugly trend remained unchecked, it could lead to bloodletting.
“How can someone openly call a sitting governor of a state names? You think you can be known by just insulting your governor?
What kind of cheap political point are you trying to score, coming up to dishonour the person of the state number one citizen? What happened to your self-worth and respect?
“The level of politics that is being introduced into Anambra State lately is worrisome and scary. Every reasonable individual in this state should speak against this pattern of politicking.
Elite should condemn it also. We are not known for such politics that is being practiced now in our state. Politics of character assassination should be jettisoned. Let reason prevail,” she pleaded.
Dr. Akudo called on the youths to engage in meaningful ventures and stay away from desperate politicians, noting that Anambra youths were known for their resourcefulness and industry.
“I want to tell our youths to concentrate on their future and stop following these politicians about. They can only use and dump them. Leverage on the enabling environment already created by the governor.
Be useful and stop being a willing tool in the hands of uncultured politicians. Do not allow them to use you to insult or get at men old enough to be your father. Be wise,” Akudo admonished.
Dr. Akudo, a native of Akwaeze, thanked Governor Willie Obiano for appointing her people into key and sensitive positions in his cabinet, noting that he had done so much for her town, Akwaeze, and deserved to be voted for.
“He has done so much for my town. Is it appointment, infrastructural development or empowerment? Akwaeze has benefited from his government. We want him returned,” she concluded.
