Group tasks FCT minister on clean capital city

A civil society organisation under the aegis of Change Vision Nigeria Group has tasked the FCT Minister on the establishment of policies that will lure the residents into practicing clean environment and bring a standard worthy of emulation.
The group made challenge through its leader, Architect Tunde Imolehin, in addition to numerous calls by visitors of the Nigeria’s capital city for the present administration to create a conducive atmosphere for healthy living.
Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation, Architect Tunde Imolehin revealed that the Change Vision Nigeria Group was established in 1996 with the vision to make everyone a change agent in Nigeria.
The present administration of the FCTA, it would be recalled, launched clean and green of the entire FCT to ensure a standard means of providing clean environment free of disease spread and capable of offering desired hospitality to visitors from other countries.
Architect Imolehin said that the Group was in FCT Minister’s office to intimate him on the forthcoming Abuja Business Forum scheduled for May 18, 2017. He further stated that visitors are likely to move around major cities like the FCT, which is the acclaimed fastest developing in the entire African sub region.
The FCT Minister, while responding to the visitors, said that his office has made it a priority to ensure the environment is safe for all. He said: “it was a priority when we assumed office, to challenge the residents of the Federal Capital Territory to jealously protect the environment and make it better than we met it”.
Malam Bello reiterated that the protection of environment is a duty that must be carried out by all and sundry by making it more amiable for human habitation because it is our collective heritage.
His words: “I believe that it is our duty to protect the environment, to really make the environment amiable for human habitation, just like we see in other countries all over the world.”
According to him, “the Change Vision Nigeria Group is a passionate advocate of the protection of the environment and this one of the areas that had endeared me to your group.”
He emphasised that in Abuja, “we have the advantage of having a city that has been planned from the scratch, a city that really if we put our heads to it, we should be able to make Abuja just like any other city in the world. We have the resources, the weather is pretty good, and rainfall pattern here is quite good. So, there is no reason why we cannot make this city green and beautiful”.
The Minister affirmed that the FCT Administration would continue to support any initiative that can protect the environment, adding: “I will like to discuss more on the change garden concept because I think we have a lot of gardens here at locations in the Federal capital city itself that we will like to serve as a model of what a real garden should truly be”.
Malam Bello assured that the FCT Administration would partner very closely with Change Vision Nigeria Group to further develop the Parks and Gardens within the FCT and pledged unalloyed support in the forthcoming Abuja Business Forum.
