Group to present anti-open grazing bill to Plateau Assembly
The Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum will today present an anti-open grazing bill to the State House of Assembly.
The presentation is slated for 8am beginning with a convergence at the gate of the Plateau state House of Assembly by all youths dressed in black or all white or a combination of both, with the hope to mark an end to the repeated herders attacks on communities in the state.
“Its in light of these attacks that in a bid to put an end to the massacre & occupation of “conquered” territories hitherto occupied by sons of Plateau, which led to the Plateau Youth G-17 Peace & progressive Forum, a non religious, non political pressure group with members drawn from the 17 local governments that make up the state to painstakingly take the burden to prepare a bill which if passed into law will see to the end of these senseless killings that has plagued the state in recent times,” the group said.
In a statement signed by the founder of the group, Mr. Dachung Bagos, it also reads that “in coming up with the bill, the Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum has carefully studied the anti grazing laws of Ekiti, Benue & Taraba States, with a view to finding peculiarities & similarities between Plateau & the above listed states.
“After careful study & evaluation, we have came up with a bill that will be most profitable for Plateau State which if passed into law will ensure the security of both farmers & herders.”
The statement therefore called on sons, daughters and friends of Plateau State to March with it as it presents the bill to the Plateau State House of Assembly during its seating on Tuesday.
