Group dedicates magazine to late Prof Achebe

Founder and National President of Initiative for Eradication of Poverty /Empowerment of Disabled (IFEPED), Mr. Victor Ugwu has said its first magazine is dedicated to late Prof. Chinue Achebe the world literary icon.

Ugwu said this on Sunday in Nsukka while presenting the magazine and almanac to catholic faithful at the St Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral Nsukka, Enugu State.

He said the magazine was the group little way to honour and immortalizes Achebe who used his literary work to promote African culture and empowered many people.

“IFEPED dedicates its maiden magazine to honour and immortalized late Prof. Chinue Achebe whose numerous literary work promoted African culture and empowered many people in the continent” he said.

The national president said IFEPED is a nongovernmental organization registered with Corporate Affairs Commission In 2014 for eradication of poverty and empowerment of disabled as its primary role.

“We have over 3000 registered members across the country and our aim is to help the poor and physically challenged people so as to get many of them out from begging in the streets.

“We have empowered some of our members by providing wheelchair, brail machines and walking aids for visually impaired persons,” he said.

The founder said the group also have been assisting members in academic by paying their school fees while other were empowered by making them to learn a skill that would help them earn a living.

Ugwu commended Bishop Godfrey Onah the Catholic bishop of Nsukka diocese for interest on the group and his assistance and pray God to continue to bless him.

In a remark Onah applauded IFEPED who many of its members including the national president were physically challenged but did not allow it to be an excuse to beg on the street.

“This well edited magazine and beautiful almanac launched by IFEPED is a demonstration that there is ability in disability.

“When you believe in God and work hard even if you are physically challenged you will achieve your set goals in life.

“After all there are some people who are not physically challenged but refused to work and are liabilities to their families, to me disability is in the mind,” he said.

Onah who was represented by Rev. Fr. Cajetan Iyidobi, the diocesan Secretary and Chancellor Catholic diocese of Nsukka urged IFEPED to continue in its mission to help in eradicating poverty and empowering physically challenged people.

“I advise you to always trust in God and believe in him as your creator and provider, “he said.
