GoTv, Startimes ordered to migrate to freeTv platform

GoTv and Startimes have been ordered by the Federal Government to switch their signals to the two approved FreeTv signal distributors in Nigeria.

The directive was in line with the Digital Switch Over (DSO) phase, according to Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture.

The Minister said that the laws of the country recognize a single frequency network that is run by two licensed signal providers, Integrated Television Services (ITS) and Pinnacle Communications, on Thursday in Abuja.

According to Mohammed, both Startimes and GoTv are currently broadcasting their respective signals.

“We have directed National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to ask Gotv and Startimes to go to either Pinnacle of ITS.

“They cannot carry their signals and that is the only way the licensed signal distributors can survive,’’ he said.

Mohammed promised that the DSO would give Nigerians access to a variety of television stations as well as high-quality pictures and programs without the need for a monthly subscription.
