Gombe APC alleges manipulations of LGCs by Gov Dankwambo
The political scene in Gombe State is getting charged with allegations from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as refusal of the Dankwambo government to conduct local government election in a very long time.
The APC is also accusing the state government of diverting funds meant for the running of the local governments, thus, rendering them ineffective in performing their third tier functions.
Rising from a meeting of the State Elders Forum held in Tal, Billiri Local Government Area on Sunday, Chairman of the forum, Mr. James Yakubu said constituting a caretaker committee management for the LGC’s for no fewer than three times running goes against the constitution of Nigeria.
According to him, the state government has been manipulating the issue of local government election in the state by appointing caretaker committee management times without number.
He said “they are interested in controlling the federal allocation to the LGC’s, so, instead of organising the elections, they keep on appointing caretaker committee from time to time. It is there in the constitution, but they now appoint caretakers and it is time that elections are supposed to be held”.
