Go to tribunal, Oyo REC tells aggrieved parties

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in charge of Oyo State, Ambassador Rufus Akeju has advised aggrieved parties that protested against the results of the Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections to go to court and seek redress.

Akeju who noted that he had never receive any complain or letter from any of the party said he was shocked when he saw the reports of protests against the election results in the media.

It will be recalled that some political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) Accord party and Labour party protested against the results shortly after they were announced.

The REC while briefing journalists at the commission’s office in Ibadan, the state capital on Wednesday, in company of electoral officers from the 33 local government areas of the state said the commission is ready to maintain the tempo in giving Nigerians free’ acceptable and credible elections.

Akeju while assuring Nigerians that INEC and security agencies will not hesitate to deal with anyone who intends to forment trouble in the state noted that the commission will continue to prove prophets of doom wrong by maintaining the integrity of the commission through various innovative and methods as displayed on Saturday.

He noted that the condemnation of the results is an insult to the commended efforts of the commission in giving Nigerians free and fair elections noting that political parties and other stakeholders must be careful not to discourage the commission.

He assured all political parties a level plating ground noting that the commission will continue to remain neutral and unbiased.

“I need to conclude this statement by assuring the political parties in the state of provision of level playing field ny the commission as we shall continue to remain impartial and unbiased”
