Fubara Warns New Appointees Against Misconduct, Late-Night Meetings

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has cautioned newly appointed government officials against unauthorised late-night meetings or any conduct capable of embarrassing the state government.

Fubara gave the warning shortly after inaugurating the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Dagogo Wokoma, and the Chief of Staff (CoS), Mr Sunny Ewule, in Port Harcourt on Thursday. He stressed that any such misconduct would attract immediate dismissal.

Earlier, the oath of allegiance and oath of office were administered to the appointees by the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi.

The governor described the appointments as a call to public service rather than an opportunity for political grandstanding or personal ambition. He urged the officials to uphold integrity, restraint and dedication to public interest.

Fubara expressed confidence in Wokoma’s intellectual capacity, describing him as an accomplished academic and mathematician. He charged the new SSG to discharge his responsibilities with diligence and professionalism, represent the government honourably, and support the completion of ongoing development projects aimed at advancing the state’s progress.

Addressing the Chief of Staff, the governor said the office required effective administrative coordination, proper management of official engagements and protection of the Government House’s public image.

He emphasised that the Chief of Staff must operate strictly under the governor’s authority and avoid independent political engagements or private strategy meetings without prior approval.

Fubara also directed permanent secretaries who have reached retirement age to prepare their handover notes without delay. He warned against financial misconduct, stating that his administration was closely monitoring the system to ensure accountability.
