From Scam to Success: Blessing Nwachukwu’s $2M Tech Rise
With Agency Report
At 21, Blessing Nwachukwu left Nigeria for Russia with nothing but a dream, $65 in her pocket, and a plane ticket to study. Today, she’s not only a US citizen but a self-made tech entrepreneur and millionaire with a net worth exceeding $2 million.
The Moscow Hustle: From Student to English Tutor
Blessing’s journey began in 2009 when she left for the People’s Friendship University in Moscow. With no financial cushion beyond her meager funds and two suitcases, she quickly realized survival in a foreign land wasn’t going to be easy.
To make ends meet, she sold foodstuff her mother sent from Nigeria and taught herself to braid hair. Eventually, she took a cleaning job at an American church. Then came a pivotal move — she bought a laptop and internet access instead of splurging on non-essentials. That investment changed her life.
Online, she discovered a lucrative market for English teachers in Russia, often paying between $30 and $100 per hour. Her first major break came when a Russian millionaire hired her as a governess for his child. Soon, she was teaching the children of other wealthy families and earning up to $4,000 per month.

Devastation and Betrayal
Despite financial success, Russia was never home. The extreme weather, racial prejudice, and lack of dual citizenship wore her down. She decided to pursue her long-held dream of moving to Canada or the United States. But her plans were derailed when she was defrauded of $30,000 — all her savings — by scammers who promised her a Canadian visa. Worse, her passport was stolen in the process.
Back in Nigeria, defeated but not broken, Blessing launched The Blessy Jackson Show on YouTube and began applying to film schools abroad. With the support of her best friend, Faithful, she returned to Russia to begin a PhD program, funded entirely by her friend.
A Mother’s Last Gift and the American Dream
In 2014, her mother, newly retired from the defunct Nigerian Electricity Power Authority (NEPA), gave her a blank cheque: “Tell me anywhere you want to go.” That moment, Blessing says, was life-defining. Though she had always dreamed of Canada, she was inexplicably drawn to the United States.
Despite having been denied a US visa twice, she applied again—this time with a revised academic focus—and was granted one.
Building an Empire in America
Blessing landed in Georgia in January 2015. Inspired by the earning power of her ex-husband, who worked in tech, she pivoted into the field herself. She studied database administration and began building websites for small businesses, charging upwards of $2,000 per site.
Her success in tech allowed her to invest in real estate. She began buying properties when demand was low and converting them into profitable Airbnbs. Her strategic moves paid off—her net worth today exceeds N3 billion (about $2 million USD), combining both her tech and real estate ventures.
A Life Rewritten
Now a naturalized US citizen, Blessing has no plans of returning to Nigeria.
“This is home,” she says. “This is where I want to reside till I pass on. It’s where I want to be buried.”
From losing everything in a visa scam to building a multimillion-dollar empire, Blessing Nwachukwu’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and relentless pursuit of a better life.
