Foundation empowers teenage girls on leadership skills, sex education

A Youth empowerment foundation, (YEF) has empowered about 2,000 teenage girls in Lagos, Ibadan and Abuja on life skills, sex education, financial literacy and sport under its goal project.
The foundation which carries out the programmes in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank, as for the last seven years been working with teenage girls in public secondary schools in three states, while several girls had been transformed or rehabilitated.
Speaking at a recently organised media forum in Ikoyi lagos state, which also coincide with the celebrate of the world day of the girls child, the executive secretary of the Foundation Mrs
Iwalola Jimoh, note that the foundation had empowered several teenage girls in the three states, through programmes such as the annual summer camp where they are taught on life skills, such as vocational training, leadership skills, sport and financial literacy.
Iwalola Jimoh revealed that the foundation train girls in public schools who in turn train their colleagues, adding that the foundation next objective would be to empower the successful girls from the vocational training with startup capital for them to start their business.
She said that “the foundations operate in public schools in Lagos, Ibadan and Abuja, were the girls are taught life skills such as leadership, vocational training, financial literacy and sport, alot of them don’t remain the same again.”
“We hold annual summer camp in Ibadan were they are taught this life skills for us the next target is to give capital to the successful girls in the vocational training and monitor their business grow”
Sharing her experience, Moyinoluwa Ajayi 11 Years old JSS 2 student of Akoka junior high school stated that since she joined the goal project her life has changed, adding that she was now aware of healthy education, financial literacy and had been trained in different vocation.
” It has really been a privilege joining the goal initiative I have learnt a lot since last February that I joined. I now know what it takes to lead people and I use to talk down on people before. Also I save money I don’t spend my money buying things that are useless”Ajayi said.
