Forgery trial: Ekweremadu told to retract letter to global community

Following pro-Ekweremadu rally held in Awgu over the on-going trial of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, over the forgery of Senate Rules, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains in Enugu State have called on Ekweremadu to retract the letter he wrote to the international community.

The APC chieftains made the call at the weekend during a mini-rally at Awgu, to counter the procession of a pro-Ekweremadu group, led by Professor Sam Ukpabi.

The rally which was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the APC in the State, Comrade A.C. Ude, Woman Leader, Lolo Queen Nwankwo, Chief Anike Nwoga, Vice-Chairman of the party, Chief Flavour Eze, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Barrister Julie Ibekaku, Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reform, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Barrister Sharon Ikeazor, among others frowned at the letter and advised Ekweremadu to retrace his steps.

Nwoga berated Ekweremadu for writing a letter to the international community, on what he termed internal affairs of the country.

“Senator Ike Ekweremadu should retract the letter he wrote to the international community; because the desperate letter is 360 degrees at variance with the Oath of Office he did solemnly swear to, which states inter alia, ‘…that I will be faithful and bear the allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria … and always in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“By this unwarranted letter, he has desecrated the Constitution, tarnished the image of Nigeria and by extension our dear president. As a senior lawyer, we had expected him to maintain his earlier statement that he had faith in Almighty God and the Nigerian courts,” Nwoga said.
