Fire destroys yet another school in Kano
Fire has destroyed yet another secondary school in Kano. The inferno which occurred at Government Secondary School Gwarzo was said to have destroyed four student hostels. The fire which destroyed students’ property worth millions of naira was said to have started while academic activities were going.
Confirming the incidence, Director Kano State Fire Service Department, Mr. Balarabe Kabara, stated that the fire outbreak occurred at about 11:47a.m., while the students were in their classes for lessons, and that it took the timely intervention of his men and some persons from the community to prevent further destruction.
The case of Gwarzo Secondary School is the third in Kano in recent times. It would be recalled that seven female students of Government Secondary School, Gezawa lost their lives in a fire outbreak that razed their hostels leaving scores injured, while the other one occurred at Government Secondary School, Kwankwaso.
Students and other residents in the state have been advised to be mindful of how they dispose of things like cigarette tubs, match sticks which could cause fire outbreak considering the dry season.
